Giuseppe Arlacchi is
Sociology Professor at the
University of Sassari (Sardinia). He has also been Professor of Applied Sociology at the University of Calabria and the University of Florence, and visiting professor at Columbia University in New York. From 1997 to 2002, he served as Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Director-General of the United Nations in Vienna and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Giuseppe Arlacchi is the author of various books and publications on Mafia and transnational organized crime. He has received numerous national and international decorations and awards in recognition of his contribution to a better understanding of the Mafia. He is currently a Member of the European Parliament.
