Sylvain Topin
Sylvain Topin is a senior expert at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). He holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of Paris-Saclay. He has managed projects to develop systems for detecting radioactivity in the air, and was head of an analysis laboratory at the CEA until 2024.
He is now deputy head of an analysis department at the CEA, which provides technical support for France under the International Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). In particular, Sylvain Topin heads the radionuclide component of the National Data Centre, which is responsible for collecting and analysing data from stations that continuously measure radioactivity in the air at various locations around the world (CTBT monitoring system), in order to characterise nuclear events, whether civilian or military. He is the author or co-author of 31 scientific publications in journals such as the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity and Analytical Chemistry. He is also a member of the Radionuclide Expert Group of the CTBT Organisation, based in Vienna (Austria).
Sylvain Topin has been an associate professor at the CNAM since October 2022. He teaches analytical chemistry techniques as part of the Chemistry-Living-Health National Teaching Team (EPN7).
