Matthias Biesemans is an Islamologist and researcher at the Belgian Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA),a service responsible for analysing terrorism and extremism threats. Between 2000 and 2008, he worked for eight years in the Research and Documentation Centre (CEDOCA) of the belgian Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees. Later on, he spent twelve years working for the European Union as an election observer in various Middle Eastern States, including Yemen, Sudan, Tunisia, Algeria and Lebanon.
